in 1907 there was one ladder and 20 buckets in Ankeny to fight fires. In 1910 they formed the first department.
My next door neighbor Charlie was Chief for a while. They had to plow his driveway, ours was also done.....In 1967 Marv Frisk became the first paid chief. Co workers Dale and Howard were on hand. The twin stood proud, the mayor spoke, as well as former chief Tom....former co worker Kenny is a volunteer....a great evening. Ankeny went from this lead statement to our current state of affairs, almost 45,000 residents and only two fire stations......we are a great city.....
