it's HOT....Mom used to say "oh heavens", and now it is OH MY.....how hot is it? will we break the record highs of the 1936 era?We do not like the heat, so we go inside to a/c. How did my parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles make it thru the 1936 heatwave with NO a/c? We can't imagine life w/o air conditioning. Sounds like we are spoiled, but loving it.
Life in Kirksville over the week end wasn't any cooler than home in Iowa and Texas is also HOT. BUT, Texas always has some nice wind to keep down the humidity and make it comfortable. We need rain in Texas, a long drought.
We buried another Iowa soldier today, the 2nd or 3rd soldier to die this month. I am still wondering when our leaders will get off their dead butts and bring home our troops.
I played golf today with my foursome, this is about year 23 that we have been golfing together. Of course, we picked today out, in late June. But, we played a scramble, that takes less time, spent a lot of time in the shade, drank several gallons of water and were happy when the 4 1/2 hour event was over. We shot 4 under par, we are getting ready for the Nellie Open in October...I think it is 3 months until I hit the road to go back south to those Llano Yahoos.....carry on
PS, don't forget your mail carrier, watch for your delivery and surprise them with a cold drink

Every year Ankeny has a big
Summerfest celebration, which is really a big party for my birthday. Once again, I started the slide show backwards, oh well.Notice the little girl in pink, on the bridge on the float? She was hot, tired, overheated and looked like she was going to fall off the float. Where is the adult supervisor? Two youth were injured in this years parade. One injury was a broken arm to a skateboarder. She fell, looked at her arm, it was really bent. She went to the side of the street, sat down, called her mom, cool calm and collected. Obviously, this has happened before. Enjoy the typical IOWA parade, with all those green giants, the sprayer is made here in Ankeny. Carry on.......

I am amused
by my last posting. It isn't tough, just sit down and post.....OH MY! One month has passed. June has been wet again in central Iowa. Our projects this summer are to work on the lanai. We had the electricity installed along with a PALM ceiling fan that I brought back from Texas. Love the power, no chords running from the garage under the door, inside to the TV and lamp. I should have done this years ago, and it was supposed to happen. there was a trade......two golf clubs made by my brother in exchange for the electric hook up.....they have the golf clubs........10 years later, I had to pay for the electricity.....oh well......
let's see, new boards on the east side of the lanai, as the original boards are rotten. not too hard a job. I hear y'all laughing. Yes, a few minor problems of cutting cement boards to fit around an outlet. I painted more today. We picked up boards to hammer on to keep out the rain. The roll up screens are not made to fit the screen openings. Also picked up some new indoor/outdoor carpet. Maynards, aka Menards had a sale this week. They had some crap......asked Home Depot if they would meet the price and they said yes, a much better product.....Wet basement, pulled out that carpet. We will paint some cracks in the foundation/floor of basement and lanai and maybe in a week, the summer projects will be done......time to relax and enjoy NO RAIN......one week until July 4th, then Summerfest in Ankeny, then off to Kirksville, home for a couple weeks, off to a band jam at the casino, family reunion......before I know it........October will be here and time to go back home to Texas.......carry on

First there was a wind at Llano
and it broke off a tree limb, missing the awning and the mobile home. Steve and his crew cleaned it up right away and I found the downed limb down the street, looked about 25'long. Then one night, I was bored with TV and knowing it would be soon when I would be starting on the long road trip north, I sat outdoors till about 10 PM several nights and played with the camera. The palm trees are on the lot I was renting. The light circles and lines come from the light boxes on each lot, I just wiggled the camera for the effects. Carry on....
