are needed everywhere. I don't remember if I posted any of these statues. We don't have any statues in Ankeny. We don't even have a statue that represents the Ankeny Hawkettes and Hawks....These are from that small Nebraska town, Hastings, a lot smaller than my home town.......get with it Ankeny.......

Homecoming, Hall of Honor and the 49ers
Taylor and Cameron were introduced as Homecoming royalty. First kick and disaster followed, a 27-10 loss for the Hawk football team. Each year the AHS alumni chooses two new members to their Hall of Honor. This year it was the medical field honored. From the class of 59, Marilyn Hefte Asay and from the class of 68 Dr. Doug Leavengood. Doug's wife Lois Ann is 1/4th of the 49ers. four girls born in the same year, all neighbors, I am the eldest, the rest of the girls were born in November, Becky 2nd, Lois 3rd and the baby of the group, Jan. The loudspeaker system at the football field was lousy, we could not understand most of the speech and that caused people to talk and laugh and not honor these two individuals. It was a great week end.
Doug and Lois deplaned and headed for lunch at the Village Inn in Ankeny. The other Lois joined us for a two hour lunch w/o martinis.....
the 49ers enjoyed breakfast at the Des Moines Farmers Market on Saturday.Great omelets in the alley.

100 years of Fire Safety and Protection
in 1907 there was one ladder and 20 buckets in Ankeny to fight fires. In 1910 they formed the first department.
My next door neighbor Charlie was Chief for a while. They had to plow his driveway, ours was also done.....In 1967 Marv Frisk became the first paid chief. Co workers Dale and Howard were on hand. The twin stood proud, the mayor spoke, as well as former chief Tom....former co worker Kenny is a volunteer....a great evening. Ankeny went from this lead statement to our current state of affairs, almost 45,000 residents and only two fire stations......we are a great city.....
