Yes, i had to make an eight foot putt on
the last hole for a birdie. YES, even par
round finally at Llano Grande. I even
missed two birdies by a total of five inches!
NO PROBLEM, I made par........carry on...

It has been a busy week
with golf, golf, work, Mexico trips, lots of heat, so
bobbing in the swimming pool was included a couple days.
Only four more days of work at the pools. Where has the
"winter" on the calendar gone? It seems like yesterday
when I arrived to find my unit parked on the wrong site.
Wonderful people here in Llano Grande Lake Park, many
new friends that I golf with and do projects with. I will
be coming back in the fall, same site, new job. I'll have
some time in April to get to the island a few times for
R n R......By the middle of April, most folks will be
heading back north. Let's see if I can find some new
photos to post.........carry on.......

Another PS
Saturday is winter Texan Day in Mexico, at our safe
city of Progresso. They close down auto traffic at
the border, fill it with stages of entertainment,
the shops take their wares to the street, free food, etc......
did I already mention this? Mary Beth, Mona and I are
meeting at 8 am at the gate, so we can get a parking
spot.

on the north end tonight............I hope the
key works....

I am in the middle of
NCAA basketball and wrestling......Tough day for the Hawkeyes
on the mat, at least a Big Ten team is in the lead. Metcalf is
about to wrestle in the semi's, so I will watch before I switch
back to Lute Olsen's BB team. Good old Lute, formerly from
IOWA, had to retire for health reasons.
Another glorious day in the Rio Grande Valley. mid 80's. I played
golf with the guys this morning, since the women didn't show up.
Next week we are having the East End Trailer Trash golf outing,
to celebrate the end of our workamper duties. Four of us that
were not at the golf course this year, will be there next
season to join the rest of the neighbors. Good group on the
east side of the park, the original area.
Tragedy last week, former co worker was in a snowmobile
accident in which her daughter was killed. Actress killed in a
skiing accident and a horrible bus accident in Mexico killed
one Iowan from West Liberty, several Canadians and several
educators from Brownsville. A horrible 24 hour period.
Eight days left to work, I am surprised the winter has gone
by so fast. I am sure my Iowa family will object.....four
feet of snow???? Carry on my friends.........

Another update
about Bob, the man that was shot in our park. He was at the swimming pool today
with all of us "bobbers". He is well. Upbeat. Not too bad of a scar on his neck.
The doctor said the bullet entry was a direct line. The police set up a scope, one
of Horacio's scan lines from CSI Miami....It showed a path between several
RV units SE towards the levee and resaca.....long distance bullet....lots of police
around lately, I have not heard any gun fire late at night for almost two weeks....
I think some boys were goofing off....
carry on.........

Susan B Komen Golf Event
was a success here in the Rio Grande Valley. I contacted the office only two weeks
ago and my new Canadian friend Betty helped me out in a big way. We pulled it off.
We did not know how many to expect, but we collected $500 for the RALLY FORE
THE CURE event. It was also our last league day, as the winter Texans are heading
home on a daily basis. Anyone reading this that might be interested, just google Rally for the Cure,
you can do a golf event, a bowling event, a tennis event and include
the men in your life....Door prizes are sent from the national office for those donating to the cause.....
Carry on my friends........

Sunday on the Beach
Two weeks ago on the island for three
days. I thought you'd like to see what
I have to go through to enjoy my
winters. I have not been over to the
island very often this winter, that will
change when I am done working in four
weeks.

We are not idle, us Winter Texans
My friends and I are NOT rocking right
now, at the Elvis show. The tire was
washed ashore, probably from Dolly,
the hurricane. Freddy Couples on TV,
my cabin at the KOA, sunset, and the
view from my deck. Goofy at the cabin,
each cabin has it's own name. I am out
on the beach and finally the waves at
Isla Blanca where I lived last season.

Usual sites in Progresso, Mexico
Gale is watching the crowds from
second floor in front of the doctor's
office. You will also notice the
presense of the Mexico Military.

Update on Bob,
the man in our park that was shot.
He is doing just fine. South of our
park there is a firing range and
apparently, that's where the bullet
came from, a 223 round, which is a
high powered round capable of going
LONG distances. No random act, unless
the culprit shot in our direction
to see what would happen. By the
way, Bob fought for the USA at
Normandy.....didn't even receive
a scratch during the fighting......
Go figure.....carry on....

and I shot these photos from my deck last night while enjoying a cocktail aka Martini and cheese and crackers. The restaurant is in the way of my sunset, have to go out to the pier tonight. Low tide this morning from the deck and lastly, in the distance, the palm trees, that is where I lived last winter. Carry on.......

Mexico. Left of the trees is the Rio Grande River.Maybe a football field
from the river to the cement fence.Goofy and I are at a rest stop at Bentsen park, Palmview TX.
the next crop of oranges are growing. As soon as they have a small touch
of yellow, they will be stripped from the trees. Free fruit.
Today it is 95 at 340 PM. I am working on my taxes, boring. I set today's
deadline at 4 PM, then off to the store and to pick up carry out for dinner.
Tomorrow a trip to Mexico. Friday I'll pack a suitcase and some toys for
the week end at South Padre Island......I'll be right on the gulf, my deck
faces west for a beautiful sunset/cocktail time........carry on

A Great week
for the most part, down here in the Rio Grande Valley. 70's plus on the weather station scale, not much wind until today, Sunday. Golf league and scramble were real golf, you did not have to guess about your club. I shot a sweet 39 on my own, our three some had a 5 under par to win last week's scramble. I sold the mobile home, Monday I will get the paperwork to finalize the deal and get my money. Friday I went with a group on a bike ride to Mexico. We had to drive 70 miles to Roma Texas. We were supposed to go to a school for entertainment, but that was not to be, a big sore point for the bike riders. It was an enjoyable ride none the less, to a very poor town on the border, Miguel Aleman, Mex. Today, Sunday, I went to do laundry early morning. A little before 10 am there is great traffic to attend church services. I saw an elderly man trying to get in the gate, I went to help, it was Bob, an Iowan that I had breakfast with last week. He said, "I was the one who was shot!" I was shocked. Bob and his wife were going home, the other night, when he was hit in the neck. 5 hours of surgery. Bob is around 80 years old. A tough SOB. There is a levee that surrounds our RV park to help protect us from floods. In the distance south, open fields and when I am working late at night cleaning swimming pools, I hear the gun shots. One night last week I know I heard machine gun shots. Bob did not get hit by random violence, you need a clicker to get in the gate to our park. I think the guns were firing and one was caught by the wind..unless there was someone standing on the resaca and shot when this person saw someone in the park....go figure......
Today, Sunday, I ordered a 21 foot by 40 inch high screen to block the wind so my tomato plants have a chance to bloom. I have a lot of small toms, none red yet. LIFE IS GOOD.....no sense in being scared about bullets. I believe when my time is up, it happens. Neil Diamond is performing on the Grammy's tonight, I hope it is before I turn on Brothers and Sisters......carry on my friends, I will post some photos soon from the Mexico trip...which you will see before you read this....HAHAHAHAHA......
